Monte Casoli di Bomarzo Nature Reserve
The 'Bosco Sacro' (Sacred Wood)
Bomarzo is today well known to the general public because of the
'Parco dei Mostri', the name usually given to the 'Sacro Bosco'
of the Orsini, one of the most important sites for the architecture
and history of Italian scenery. It consists of a park of some three
hectares created in accordance with the wishes of Vicino Orsini
between 1552 and 1580 and in which, based on his instructions and
desires, a series of fantastic structures were created made by modelling
the enormous volcanic masses present in the area, the aim being
to create a garden of delights, rich in innovative works of art
scattered amongst the sinuous green architecture of an Italian-style
garden.
